Cobolli to face Zverev in French Open final after Arnaldi withdraws with virus

sports tennis

Flavio Cobolli has reached the French Open final after his semi-final opponent, fellow Italian Matteo Arnaldi, withdrew from the match on Friday due to a virus. The tenth seed will face German second seed Alexander Zverev in the final on Sunday. This marks Cobolli's first Grand Slam final.

Arnaldi had advanced to the semi-finals after Italy's Matteo Berrettini withdrew from his quarter-final match due to a hip injury. Cobolli secured his place in the semi-finals by defeating Félix Auger-Aliassime before Arnaldi's withdrawal.

Regarding his illness, Arnaldi told reporters that he began feeling unwell the previous night with stomach issues and started vomiting at 1 a.m. He stated that he vomited again between 6 and 7 a.m. and was unable to eat or drink throughout the day, as any attempt to do so caused him to return to the bathroom.
