Houthis vow retaliation after Saudi-led coalition strikes Sanaa airport

international relations armed conflict defense & military

Saudi Arabia has launched airstrikes against the international airport in Sanaa, northern Yemen. The Houthi rebels, who control the region, accused the kingdom of the attack and issued orders to evacuate the airport and surrounding areas.

Brig. Gen. Yahya Saree stated that the strikes mark an end to the de-escalation phase, warning that the aggression would not go unanswered or unpunished. In response, the militant group attacked southern Saudi Arabia.

Yemen's internationally recognized government, which is backed by Saudi Arabia and other Gulf states, claimed the strike was conducted to prevent an Iranian aircraft from landing. This incident tests the truce in the long-running conflict between the kingdom and the Iran-aligned Houthi movement.
