Two police officers who defended the U.S. Capitol from rioters on January 6, 2021, have filed a lawsuit seeking to block the creation of a nearly $1.8 billion anti-weaponization fund. The lawsuit aims to prevent those who took part in the violence from receiving payouts from the program.

The $1.776 billion fund was established as part of a settlement between the Department of Justice and President Donald Trump, resolving a $10 billion lawsuit Trump filed over the leak of his tax records by an IRS employee. The fund is intended to compensate Trump allies who claim they were victims of prosecutorial overreach or that the government weaponized the legal system against them.

The lawsuit alleges that the fund is an illegal slush fund and characterizes its creation as the most brazen act of presidential corruption this century. The officers claim the program will be used to finance insurrectionists and paramilitary groups that commit violence in the president's name, effectively funding and encouraging further acts of political violence.
