An Ecuadorean court found former President Lenín Moreno guilty on Friday in a bribery case tied to the construction of the Andean country's largest hydroelectric plant.
Three judges reached a unanimous verdict, finding that Moreno accepted bribes from China’s Sinohydro Corp. Ltd. while serving as vice president in 2010.
As a result of the ruling, the 73-year-old former president has been sentenced to prison and permanently barred from holding any public office in the future.
