The White House accused China on Thursday of stealing intellectual property from U.S. artificial intelligence labs on an industrial scale. In a memo, Michael Kratsios stated that foreign entities, mainly firms in China, are conducting industrial-scale distillation campaigns to wrongfully distill U.S. AI models and steal technology.

The U.S. government has previously accused China of targeting American AI technology and intellectual property.

The Chinese Embassy in Washington swiftly rejected the claims, calling them baseless allegations. The accusations threaten to strain relations ahead of a summit between U.S. and Chinese leaders scheduled for next month.
