President Donald Trump signed an executive order to create the U.S. Space Academy, a new military academy intended to train and educate aerospace workers and service members. Speaking at the NASA Johnson Space Center in Houston, the president stated that space is the hot thing.
The institution is designed as a military and civilian school modeled after West Point and other military service academies. Trump stated that the creation of the academy would help bolster both military and civilian missions to space.
Graduates of the academy will be prepared for careers at NASA and the growing civilian spaceflight industry. They will also serve the U.S. Space Force, the sixth and newest branch of the military created by President Trump during his first term.
