Senator Mitch McConnell, the 84-year-old Republican from Kentucky and former Senate majority leader, announced Thursday that he has been discharged from a rehabilitation center. McConnell had been hospitalized since June 14 following a fall at his home.
The senator stated that he will continue his recovery from the fall and pneumonia at home. On the advice of his doctors, he will maintain an intensive regimen of physical therapy from home during the state work period.
McConnell's weeks-long absence from the Senate and lack of public appearances since mid-June fueled mounting speculation about his health. This period of absence also sparked criticism regarding transparency over his condition.
Despite his ongoing recovery, the former Senate majority leader said he would stay involved with important Senate business.
