Karl Bushby, a 57-year-old former British paratrooper, has returned home to Hull, northern England, after completing a 28-year journey to walk around the world. A crowd of up to 1,000 people cheered his emotional homecoming on Monday as he arrived back at his mother's home.
Bushby's trek, known as the Goliath Expedition, covered 50,000 kilometres (31,000 miles) across four continents and 30 countries. He traveled without using any transport to progress, crossing the Americas, Russia, and parts of Central Asia and Europe almost entirely on foot.
The journey began on November 1, 1998, in Chile. Throughout the nearly three decades of travel, Bushby crossed jungles and frozen seas to reach his final destination in England.
