FIFA COO Kevin Lamour leaves after criticising Infantino's World Cup plan

sports leadership changes football

FIFA has confirmed that its Chief Operating Officer and third-highest-ranking official, Kevin Lamour, has left the governing body. The departure, announced on Monday, comes weeks after Lamour publicly criticized President Gianni Infantino's plan to sell stakes in the organization's tournament business, including the World Cup, to private investors.

Lamour had come out strongly against the sell-off scheme, stating that FIFA’s administration had been deceived. He further remarked that Infantino believes he embodies FIFA when he is supposed to be at its service.

The departure of the senior figure, who joined FIFA less than two years ago from a previous role at UEFA, comes as Infantino faces growing scrutiny over his leadership of world football's governing body.
