Former South Korean Justice Minister Park Sung-jae was sentenced to 25 years in prison on Monday for his involvement in former President Yoon Suk Yeol's failed martial law attempt.

Prosecutors stated that Park held a meeting with justice ministry officials in the early hours of the martial law declaration to check on prison capacity should authorities arrest anti-government figures.

Park is the latest of several members of the ousted president's cabinet to receive a prison sentence. Ex-President Yoon Suk Yeol is currently serving a life sentence for masterminding the December 2024 martial law declaration, which parliament forced him to lift within hours.
