Strong earthquakes strike northern Japan and near Mt Fuji, no tsunami threat

A magnitude 5.6 earthquake struck Yamanashi prefecture, west of Tokyo, late Friday, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency.

The Japan Meteorological Agency reported that the quake had a depth of about 50 kilometres.

The country's meteorological agency stated that there was no danger or threat of a tsunami following the earthquake. No serious injuries were reported.
