Brad Lightcap, a longtime executive and former chief operating officer at OpenAI, announced his departure on Tuesday. He is leaving the artificial intelligence company to start a new venture.

Lightcap ends an eight-year run at the company, a tenure unmatched by most remaining employees outside of CEO Sam Altman and president Greg Brockman. His departure is the latest in a series of recent leadership shake-ups at the company.

Regarding his exit, Lightcap stated that he is not going far. He told staff that he was excited to help the company advance its mission from a different vantage point.
