Father of USS Abraham Lincoln sailor detained by immigration authorities

Luis Manuel Aviles Roa, originally from Nicaragua, has been taken into federal immigration detention. A spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security stated that officers apprehended Roa during a vehicle stop in Key West, Florida.

Roa is the father of Joshua Aviles, a U.S. sailor currently serving on the USS Abraham Lincoln. The aircraft carrier, which has come under scrutiny, is on a nine-month deployment in the Middle East during the Iran war.

Aviles learned of his father's arrest while Roa was waiting for green card approval. In a Facebook post, Aviles stated that he has been fighting for a country that has given him everything, only to learn his father had been detained.
