UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin has criticized FIFA President Gianni Infantino following a failed attempt to sell stakes in the World Cup to private investors. Ceferin described the Fifa Forward Enterprise scheme, which was shelved in August amid widespread opposition, as being even worse than the Super League plan.
While Ceferin has ruled himself out of running for the FIFA presidency to avoid losing credibility, he warned that Infantino must either quit or face a leadership challenge if he seeks re-election next March. Infantino has remained mired in crisis following the global backlash over the abandoned investment proposal.
UEFA is pushing for Infantino's resignation with support from Concacaf and the Asian Football Confederation. Ceferin noted that neither he nor UEFA were informed about the investment proposal or the FIFA Peace Prize awarded to Trump. Additionally, UEFA has not dropped its threat to boycott FIFA competitions and is currently in talks with Concacaf to set up a combined Nations League tournament.
