A 13-year-old died and five people were injured when a fountain partially collapsed in western Spain in the early hours of Monday. The accident occurred shortly after midnight in Ciudad Rodrigo, located in the Salamanca province near the border with Portugal, during mass celebrations of Spain's second-ever soccer World Cup victory.
The tragedy struck as crowds celebrated the national team's win against Argentina. In addition to the fatality, two people were injured and three other people were seriously injured when the fountain collapsed.
Emergency services stated that what should have been a celebration of the Spanish national team’s World Cup victory has turned into a tragedy.
