Tropical Storm Edouard is heading toward the US Gulf coast and is expected to bring potentially heavy rains and flooding to parts of Texas and Louisiana. The National Hurricane Center has issued tropical storm warnings for these coastal regions as the system gathers strength in the Gulf of Mexico.
The storm was upgraded from a tropical depression on Monday night. Forecasters expect the system to strengthen significantly and possibly reach hurricane force on Tuesday, with landfall predicted in Texas later that day.
Winds as high as 60 mph are expected in some areas. In response to the weather conditions, the state governor has warned of a potential risk of wildfires.
