An unidentified 16-year-old minor wielding two knives attacked a policeman guarding the Israeli embassy in Belgrade just after midnight Wednesday. The assailant wounded the officer before being shot dead by the guard.

Serbia's outgoing Interior Minister, Ivica Dacic, described the incident as a terrorist attack. The government stated that the attacker appeared to be a supporter of the Islamic State.

In response to the attack, police have raised the country's terrorism threat to its highest level. A similar incident occurred outside the Israeli embassy in Belgrade in June 2024, when a man wounded a Serbian police officer and was subsequently shot dead by a guard.
