ICE agent arrested in Texas for Minneapolis shooting

crime & law

Christian Castro, an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent, was arrested Friday morning in Texas. Castro was taken into custody nearly two weeks after prosecutors in Hennepin County, Minnesota, charged him with assault and falsely reporting a crime.

The charges relate to a non-fatal shooting in north Minneapolis in January involving Julio Cesar Sosa-Celis, a Venezuelan man. The incident occurred during an attempted immigration arrest as part of a crackdown launched by the Donald Trump administration.

Authorities allege that Castro shot Sosa-Celis in the leg and subsequently lied about the attack. The arrest took place 11 days after the Hennepin County Attorney's Office announced the charges against the federal agent.
