FIFA President Gianni Infantino is facing significant pressure regarding his leadership of the global governing body. Several world football federations have recently withdrawn their support for Infantino following an aborted plan to sell stakes in the World Cup to private investors.
While the FIFA president is banking on the support of African football associations to keep his job, those associations have largely kept their counsel amid the ongoing storm.
Patrice Motsepe, president of the Confederation of African Football, stated that Infantino's fate should be decided by the organization's 211 member associations. Despite CAF providing their backing to the under-fire president, Motsepe maintains that he must stand in the elections scheduled for next March.
