The US alleges that these state-linked entities aid Cuba in the procurement of military equipment from countries deemed to be US adversaries, specifically Russia and China.
These latest measures are part of a broader effort by the Trump administration to increase pressure on the communist-run Caribbean island. The sanctions follow a national emergency declaration issued earlier this year, which imposed tariffs on any country supplying oil to the island. In recent months, President Donald Trump has further ramped up pressure by cutting off vital fuel supplies and threatening to take over the island.
