Puerto Rico will begin a rotating water rationing program this Friday across the island. The measures, affecting San Juan and other major cities, come as an intense drought grips the U.S. territory with no relief in sight.
Under the plan, tens of thousands of people will be forced to go without water for 48 hours at a time. This follows a period where residents of San Juan and neighboring communities have been without reliable water for more than 100 days.
Governor Jenniffer Gonzalez says she does not know how long the rationing measures will remain in place.
