Missing Aid Boats Bound for Cuba Spark Search Effort

humanitarian crisis international aid

The Mexican navy has launched a search-and-rescue operation in the Caribbean after two sailboats failed to arrive in Havana as scheduled. The vessels departed from Isla Mujeres, Quintana Roo, last week carrying humanitarian aid to Cuba.

The boats were part of an international aid mission intended to deliver food and medicine to the island, with an expected arrival between Tuesday and Wednesday. Nine crew members of different nationalities were onboard the two vessels.

Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel stated his country will do everything possible to locate and save those on board the missing sailboats, expressing concern for their wellbeing. The reason for the delay remains unknown as the search continues.
