Ben Shelton won the National Bank Open for the second consecutive year, defeating fellow American Brandon Nakashima 6-3, 7-6(4) on Thursday night. This victory marks Shelton's second Masters 1000 crown and his seventh career ATP Tour title, adding to wins this year in Dallas, Munich, and Stuttgart. The fifth-seeded Shelton successfully defended the title he won last year in Toronto without dropping a single set throughout the tournament.
The all-American final was the first at the Masters 1000 level since Andy Roddick beat Mardy Fish in Cincinnati in 2003. The event served as a key warm-up for the U.S. Open.
To reach the final, Shelton beat 12th-seeded 20-year-old Learner Tien 6-2, 6-3 on Wednesday night. The 28th-seeded Nakashima reached his first ATP Masters 1000 final after defeating 19-year-old Rafael Jodar of Spain 7-6 (3), 6-4 in the first semifinal. Nakashima had previously won his lone tour title in San Diego in 2022.
