Fifa president Gianni Infantino affirmed Iran’s participation in the upcoming World Cup, stating their group matches in the United States will proceed as scheduled. He made the comments while attending Iran’s friendly match against Costa Rica in Turkey.
Infantino’s statements address concerns regarding Iran’s tournament participation amid ongoing Middle East tensions and recent military actions. The Iranian FA had previously requested a venue change.
Despite the current conflict, Infantino confirmed Iran will open the World Cup in Los Angeles on June 15th, emphasizing his delight with the team’s strength. He reiterated that the scheduling of the 2026 World Cup will not be affected.
