The fastest-growing recorded Ebola outbreak has killed more than 1,500 people in eastern Congo. According to official data released on Thursday, these deaths occurred in just over two months, marking a rate of fatality faster than officials have ever recorded.
The emergency continues to outpace response efforts, with a 50 percent increase in deaths reported in approximately one week.
The Democratic Republic of Congo continues to struggle for control in infected areas. This battle is further complicated by the fact that there is currently no vaccine available for the Bundibugyo strain of the virus.
