Hungary to Halt Gas to Ukraine Until Oil Flows Resume

Hungary will gradually stop sending natural gas to Ukraine until crude oil flows resume on the Druzhba pipeline, Prime Minister Viktor Orban announced Wednesday. This action escalates a dispute with Kyiv over energy supplies impacted by the ongoing war.

The decision comes as Hungary and Slovakia face disruptions in receiving affordable Russian oil due to damage to the pipeline running through Ukraine. Kyiv is being pressured to repair the Druzhba pipeline to restore oil flows.

This standoff is also reportedly blocking a €90 billion EU aid package intended for Ukraine. Russia, meanwhile, reported widespread overnight drone strikes.
