Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney stated that trade negotiations with the United States have turned nasty after President Donald Trump derided Canada and its leadership while threatening to expand tariffs.
While Carney laughed off Trump's description of Canada, he suggested that the trade talks between the two countries have become acrimonious. Despite these comments, he affirmed that Canada remains engaged in the negotiations.
Carney described the talks as a fight to protect Canadian workers and businesses. He further noted that American buyers, rather than Canadian workers, are the ones paying for tariffs, with a 50% hike looming on August 19.
