Taiwan fires US-supplied rockets toward China in anti-invasion drill

Taiwan's military conducted coastal exercises to simulate the destruction of an invading Chinese force. The drills involved firing rockets and artillery to stop an amphibious assault in a more realistic combat scenario with less preparation time.

As part of these invasion-defense drills, the island staged the first use of the U.S.-supplied HIMARS mobile rocket system in the Taiwan Strait. The firing of the system, which is widely used by Ukraine, took place on Wednesday.

The military sent rockets in China's direction to demonstrate how it might defend itself against an attack. The exercise specifically highlighted the HIMARS system's "shoot-and-scoot" capability, allowing the launchers to avoid counter strikes.
