Russian ballistic missiles and drones targeted Kyiv on Saturday, August 1, killing up to four people and wounding 15 others, including two boys aged 13 and 17. Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported that several residents were trapped in a partially collapsed apartment building that caught fire as a result of the strike.
The attack follows a pattern of increased long-range strikes by Moscow on towns and cities across Ukraine. This event occurred just two days after a large-scale ballistic missile and drone offensive that killed 10 people and wounded more than 50. Russia also struck Dnipropetrovsk and a cargo vessel near Odesa.
Ukraine has countered by hitting Russian oil refineries several times, including one of the country's largest refineries. These strikes on energy infrastructure threaten to disrupt Russian fuel supplies.
