A shooting occurred Tuesday at a high school in the southern Philippine city of Zamboanga, leaving two students dead and at least two others wounded. Witnesses identified the site of the incident as Ateneo de Zamboanga University, a private university campus.
Zamboanga Mayor Khymer Adan Olaso stated that the fatalities were both students, including the shooter. According to the mayor, a Grade 7 student used a high-powered firearm to kill a schoolmate before fatally turning the gun on himself. Journalists at the scene reported that the victims were shot in a classroom.
Regional police spokesperson Maj. Shellamie Chang said that police forces worked to secure the school campus following the attack.
