The U.S. Department of Justice plans to deploy approximately 1,000 federal poll monitors to polling places throughout the country for the midterm elections this fall, including some this Tuesday.

Assistant Attorney General Harmeet Dhillon stated that this is a historic figure for a Republican administration. A DOJ official added that the move is likely the largest number of monitors sent under a Republican president.

The deployment comes as the president has repeatedly claimed that elections are rigged against Republican candidates, except for those they win in most cases.
