Former Thai lawmaker Chalong Riewrang was arrested Monday after he allegedly fatally shot a senior official at a government office in Nonthaburi, a province bordering Bangkok. The victim was the chairman of the Provincial Administrative Organization.

Police stated that Riewrang confessed to the shooting, citing a disagreement over borrowed money as the motive. The former MP was taken to a police station following the attack.

The incident took place just days after a school shooting in the same region, which authorities described as Thailand's deadliest shooting in nearly four years. In that previous attack, a gunman killed at least eight people.
