Israel extends detention of two Gaza flotilla activists, UN demands release

Two foreign activists, Spanish national Saif Abu Keshek and Brazilian Thiago Avila, were detained by Israeli authorities on April 29 after being seized from a Gaza-bound flotilla. They were brought to Israel and are currently being held in a prison in Ashkelon.

An Israeli court has extended the detention of the pair by six days. A judge overseeing the case stated that there is reasonable suspicion to justify the arrest by Israeli forces.

The activists deny any wrongdoing, while their supporters allege they have been mistreated in custody. Lawyers representing Abu Keshek and Avila plan to appeal the court's decision, characterizing the extension as the state's lawlessness.
