Two supertankers carrying Saudi oil were struck by unknown projectiles late Monday while transiting outbound through the Strait of Hormuz. The vessels were hit within minutes of each other near Oman.
The strikes are the latest attacks on vessels in the Persian Gulf and occur amid renewed fighting between Iran and the United States. The incidents serve as a further sign of renewed hostilities around the critical waterway.
Following the reports that the ships were struck, oil prices rose more than 2 percent.
