The Board of Peace, US President Donald Trump's postwar transition body, assured Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday that Israel's withdrawal would only begin after Hamas's complete disarmament. This assurance follows Israeli objections to a text released Thursday that called for a phased withdrawal within the territory and the immediate cessation of Israeli strikes in Gaza.
Nickolay Mladenov, the high representative for Gaza under the Board of Peace, met with Netanyahu on Monday. While Mladenov acknowledged the work was difficult, the board stated that it has reached a common understanding of the shared objectives with Israel.
Despite these developments, Israel has escalated Gaza attacks and pushed hardline demands, threatening the US-backed peace roadmap. The top envoy for the Board of Peace lamented on Sunday that Israeli forces continued attacking Gaza despite Hamas agreeing to disarm.
