Bodies of last 2 Italian divers recovered from underwater cave in Maldives

A group of divers died last week during a research trip exploring deep underwater caves in an atoll in the Maldives. The bodies were found at a depth of around 60 metres, which is twice the legal depth for recreational diving in the island nation.

Experts spent days conducting a complex search operation in the Indian Ocean. A specialist international dive rescue team recovered the remains of two of four Italians five days after they were killed scuba diving.

Maldives government spokesman Ahmed Shaam stated that three Finnish divers would attempt to retrieve the remaining bodies. The last two bodies of the group were retrieved from the sea almost a week after the incident.
