Chinese President Xi Jinping has concluded a rare two-day state visit to Pyongyang, marking his first trip to North Korea in seven years. During the visit, President Xi and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un pledged to deepen their cooperation and make significant progress in bilateral relations.
Kim Jong Un hosted the visit with two days of lavish celebrations, describing ties with China as a top priority. This signals that Beijing remains North Korea’s most important partner, over Moscow. The two leaders, who last met in Beijing in September after viewing a military parade with Russian President Vladimir Putin and other foreign leaders, expressed satisfaction and deep emotion over establishing a far-reaching blueprint for the development of their relations.
The leaders agreed to expand cooperation across the political, economic, and cultural sectors. Following these commitments to strengthen ties, President Xi Jinping has since returned home.
