The U.S. government has offered a $25 million reward for information leading to the arrest or conviction of Juan Carlos González, also known as "Pelón." González has emerged as the figurehead and alleged new leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, which is Mexico's most powerful cartel.
González is the stepson of "El Mencho," who was killed by the Mexican military.
This effort is part of a broader strategy by the Trump administration to weaken the leadership of high-profile Mexican cartels by increasing bounties. During this administration, $100 million in rewards was offered for various leaders of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel.
