Duane "Keffe D" Davis is scheduled to go on trial this Monday in Las Vegas for the 1996 killing of rap icon Tupac Shakur. The proceedings, which are expected to last a month, come nearly 30 years after the high-profile drive-by shooting that took place on September 7, 1996, while Shakur was in the city to see a Mike Tyson boxing match.
Davis, 63, is a former gang leader who faces one charge of murder with a deadly weapon with the intent to promote, further or assist a criminal gang. Prosecutors argue that Davis orchestrated the killing, ordered the hit, and provided the murder weapon used in the attack.
For decades, the murder remained one of America's most notorious unresolved cases, with no arrests made until Davis started talking. Despite the trial, proceedings are unlikely to make clear who fired the shots that killed the hip-hop legend.
