A passenger train that departed from London Victoria station derailed on Thursday shortly before 4:00 pm local time. The incident took place in southern England near Lewes, East Sussex, between Haywards Heath and Lewes, approximately 72km south of London.
Around 150 passengers were on board the train at the time of the accident. Reports on injuries varied, with some official sources stating there were no deaths or critical injuries, while other reports indicated that two people were seriously injured and nine others were hurt.
Emergency services, including paramedics and fire crews, responded rapidly to the scene. Images showed at least two carriages lying on their sides, with some passengers seen standing on top of the toppled carriages and others gathered in a nearby area of heathland. All passengers have since been removed from the train.
