Meta Platforms Inc. has expanded its partnership with Broadcom Inc. in a multibillion-dollar deal to design and build custom chips powering its artificial intelligence efforts. The collaboration will cover several generations of Meta’s custom MTIA processors.

The initial phase involves deploying over 1 gigawatt of computing capacity, with plans for a sustained, multi-gigawatt rollout. This commitment includes 1 GW of Meta’s in-house MTIA chips co-designed with Broadcom.

These new chips will be the first custom AI silicon to utilize a 2-nanometer process, as Meta races to build the computing capacity needed for AI features across its apps. The partnership extends existing work on Meta’s in-house artificial intelligence accelerators.
