The US Department of Justice has accused Yale University's medical school of engaging in ongoing discriminatory admissions practices. In a letter shared Thursday, the federal agency's civil rights division alleged that the school illegally considers race in its admissions process.

Harmeet Dhillon, the assistant attorney general for civil rights, stated that a Justice Department investigation found that Black and Hispanic students have a much higher chance of admission to the medical school than white or Asian students. According to the letter, this disparity persists despite Black and Hispanic applicants having lower test scores and grade-point averages.

These accusations follow a 2023 Supreme Court decision that banned the use of affirmative action in college admissions.

Yale is the second institution to face discrimination allegations from the federal agency this month. It is also the second major medical school targeted by the Trump administration in the past eight days.
