Israeli prosecutors on Thursday charged Jewish settler Yinon Levi with reckless manslaughter in connection with the killing of Palestinian community leader Awdah Hathaleen. The incident occurred last July in the occupied West Bank.
Hathaleen was a prominent activist who was involved in the 2025 Oscar-winning documentary No Other Land.
The indictment is a rare case in which Israeli authorities have pressed charges against an Israeli for the death of a Palestinian. According to the rights group B’Tselem, this is the first time since the October 7, 2023 attacks that an Israeli has been indicted for the death of a Palestinian in the occupied territory, marking the first such indictment in nearly three years.
