Melania Trump addressed reporters at the White House on Thursday, denying any relationship with the late Jeffrey Epstein and his associate Ghislaine Maxwell. She described claims linking her to the convicted sex offender as “false smears” and “mean-spirited attempts” to defame her reputation.
The first lady stated she “never had a relationship” with Epstein or Maxwell, and asserted she was not introduced to Donald Trump by either of them. She delivered the remarks from the same room where President Trump previously addressed the nation regarding Iran.
The White House declined to comment on the timing of the statement, which comes as the Epstein scandal continues to draw attention. Mrs. Trump also called for a congressional hearing for victims.
She indicated she may take action against those spreading what she considers to be lies, and characterized the accusations as defaming. Epstein died in federal custody in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges.
