Dozens of sloths from South American rainforests in Peru and Guyana died while being transported to or held for a forthcoming Orlando tourist attraction called Sloth World. According to a report from the Florida fish and wildlife conservation commission, 31 of the mammals perished in a storage warehouse between December 2024 and February 2025.

Officials attributed many of the deaths to a lack of heat at an unauthorized warehouse that lacked power and running water. The animals died from a condition described as cold stun.

The deaths have drawn intense criticism toward the not-yet-open slotharium. Lawmakers have also spoken out following the discovery of the deceased animals in the Florida warehouse.
