Multiple people were injured and two were killed following a shooting at a downtown Minneapolis apartment building on Wednesday afternoon. The incident took place near the Minneapolis Convention Center in the Loring Park neighborhood, prompting a massive response from law enforcement.
Police report that one victim died at the scene and another died at a hospital. The suspect also died. At least six people were injured, including three police officers. Two of the officers suffered gunshot wounds and are currently in stable condition.
Authorities warned the public to stay away from the area as dozens of police squads responded to the scene. Video posted to social media showed officers aiming rifles upward at an apartment tower.
Minnesota Governor Tim Walz stated that state officials are on the ground assisting local law enforcement and asked the public to pray for Minnesota. Minnesota House Speaker Lisa Demuth described the shooting as a heinous crime and expressed gratitude for the response of law enforcement. FBI Director Kash Patel also confirmed that his agents were responding to the incident.
