OpenAI is discontinuing its Sora AI video generator, just months after a major update and the launch of a standalone app. The decision reflects declining user interest in the generative artificial intelligence platform.
The company announced the move as part of an effort to simplify its overall portfolio of AI products. Sora allowed users to create videos and, notably, insert themselves into famous movie scenes.
Just three months ago, OpenAI signed a multiyear deal to integrate Disney characters into the Sora service. Despite this recent development, the company is moving forward with ending support for the application.
OpenAI’s decision marks a significant shift for the tool, which had garnered attention upon its initial release last year.
