Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara resigned on Tuesday following an internal investigation into his conduct. Mayor Jacob Frey announced the resignation on Tuesday evening after O'Hara received a written reprimand for what the mayor described as serious misconduct.
A report found that O’Hara probably interfered with an investigation into alleged sexual misconduct, an action Mayor Frey called a breach of trust. O’Hara stepped down after a meeting with the mayor.
O’Hara assumed the chief position in 2022, a time when the department was at the center of a national reckoning over racism and police brutality following the murder of George Floyd. Earlier this month, Mayor Frey had nominated O’Hara to serve a second term.
