FIFA President Gianni Infantino has announced a plan to create a $20 billion company to run the World Cup. The proposal involves partnering with private investors, including the Kushner family, to manage the tournament through a subsidiary.
As part of this controversial arrangement, Infantino has set a September 19 deadline for the 211 member federations to accept an offer of $20 million each. These payments are tied to the sale of stakes in the subsidiary.
The initiative has met with criticism, with Infantino continuing to lobby for the investment proposal. European soccer body UEFA immediately attacked the plan, asserting that the World Cup is not FIFA's to sell and stating that none of the parties are the owners of football.
