Heat alerts were issued for millions across parts of the western U.S. on Sunday as an unusually prolonged heat dome reached its peak. Temperatures in Utah and Montana peaked at nearly 110°F.
This major heat dome expanded from the interior West into the Upper Midwest on Sunday and is moving toward the East later this week.
Another round of sweltering heat is in store for much of the U.S. this week. New York City and the Northeast will see temperatures surge as another wave of sultry weather shifts across the eastern US and southern Canada, following an earlier heat wave that pummeled the East Coast last week.
